Blue Valley Northwest scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Blue Valley West, 28-21. At the time, the Jaguars were ranked seventh in the state, while the Huskies were 35th.
Fans got a thrill when DRAKE HERRMAN and LUKE WILMES connected against Aquinas. The longest such play in Eastern Kansas this season, the connection resulted in 84 yards.
Gardner-Edgerton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jared Hobby threw for 240 and 4 touchdowns and Jaylon Radel had 155 yards receiving. On the ground Traevohn Wrench chipped in 342 yards.
Wrench was a passing and rushing force as the Trailblazers defeated Bishop Miege. Wrench's favorite target this week was Radel, who caught 5 passes for 155 yards.
Wrench was a force in the backfield as Gardner-Edgerton bested the Stags.
He went 8-13 with 0 interception.
Wrench was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 34 carries, he ran for 342 yards as Marvin Diener's team defeated Bishop Miege. Teammate Marshall Wade added to the ground attack by rushing for 53 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Hobby and Wrench, the Trailblazers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hobby is tops in the league in passing with 552 yards, while Wrench has rushed for 895 yards this season. Blue Valley Southwest's SAM RANDALL leads the league in receiving yards with 245 on 8 catches.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Blue Valley and Blue Valley Northwest. The Tigers enters the game ranked third in the state, while Mike Zegunis' team ranks 23rd.
The Huskies were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Blue Valley West. Blue Valley Northwest came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.
