Basketball Recap: Mason Brown Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Superior

On Saturday, the San Simon Longhorns narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Superior Panthers 43-41.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Simon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mason Brown, who posted seven points and 11 boards. Brown has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Hernandez, who put up ten points along with eight boards and three steals.

San Simon was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Superior only posted four assists.

Despite the defeat, Superior saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sammy Broussard earned nine points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Broussard a new career-high in boards. Brandon Ramirez also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

San Simon's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Superior, they dropped their record down to 2-20 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

San Simon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-43 defeat against San Manuel on the 29th. As for Superior, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 45-34 loss against Cicero Prep Academy on the 28th.
