Basketball Recap: Calhoun Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Holly Hill Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun Academy). They blew past the Holly Hill Academy Raiders 82-57 on Monday. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Raiders are ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Calhoun Academy was led to victory by Chase Strickland and Nick Lindsay. Strickland went 7 for 13 en route to 17 points along with eight boards and five steals, while Lindsay went 9 of 17 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, Lindsay is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Will Strock also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Calhoun Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Holly Hill Academy still got an impressive performance from Jody Gillam, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 26 points. That was a full 45.6% of Holly Hill Academy's points, marking the ninth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Soles, who put up ten points.

Calhoun Academy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Holly Hill Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Calhoun Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-56 victory against Patrick Henry Academy on the 14th. Holly Hill Academy has also already played their next game, a 51-38 loss against Jefferson Davis Academy on the 15th.
