The Fort Calhoun Pioneers will take on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Calhoun is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 33.4 points per game this season.
Fort Calhoun is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Mount Michael Benedictine on Friday. The Pioneers received a blow as they fell 34-20 to the Knights. The contest marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Kaiden Rodriguez and Jedd Ramold. Ramold had a great game and rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Rodriguez was balling out in the loss, rushing for 103 yards and a pair of scores.
Meanwhile, Concordia kept up with Logan View/Scribner-Snyder until halftime on Friday, but afterwards: not so much. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder breezed past Concordia to the tune of 44-10. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder's win came from a few key players Fort Calhoun will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryan Smith, who rushed for 67 yards on only eight carries, and also caught one TD. Jett Vacha was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 206 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Vacha, Truman Young, and Brendon Horvatich picked up one apiece. Young got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Having lost for the first time this season, Fort Calhoun fell to 4-1. As for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Fort Calhoun has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 268 passing yards per game. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 241.4 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
