Basketball Recap: Sotomayor Skates Past Taft with Ease

Sotomayor waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Taft Raiders 71-42. Given the WILDCATS's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Raiders are ranked 767th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jasiah Saunders was his usual excellent self, going 13 for 20 on his way to 30 points and three steals. The contest was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Isaac Berry was another key player, putting up nine points.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chasen Wilkerson, who posted four points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Williams, who put up ten points.

Sotomayor pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Taft, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Sotomayor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-42 win against Warren on the 3rd. As for Taft, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-37 defeat against Harlan on the 3rd.
