Basketball Recap: Wilby Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ja'nell Saunders and Raine Upchurch

After flying high against Derby last Friday, Wilby came back down to earth. The Wilby Wildcats fell just short of the Torrington Raiders by a score of 46-43 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since December 29, 2023.

Despite the defeat, Wilby had strong showings from Raine Upchurch, who went 8 of 19 on her way to 27 points, and Ja'Nell Saunders, who posted eight points along with 15 boards and four steals. Upchurch's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Wilby dropped their record down to 6-3 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Torrington, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Wilby has already played their next matchup, a 40-33 victory against Kennedy on the 15th. Torrington has also already played their next contest (against Woodland Regional), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
