Baseball Recap: Northumberland Indians vs. Lancaster Red Devils
Northumberland lost to Lancaster on Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Indians fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 5-4. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
John Withers was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Withers wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lyndon Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
The loss was their first on the road, dropping their record down to 5-4. As for Lancaster, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northumberland will face off against Northampton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Lancaster, they will take on Westmoreland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
