With a playoff win on the line, Northwestern rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 52-45 win over the Gaffney Indians. The victory was nothing new for the Trojans as they're now sitting on eight straight.

Northwestern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Means, who rushed for 120 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns. 84 of those passing yards were hauled in by David Flood, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Northwestern was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 349 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

When it comes to explaining why Gaffney lost, don't look at Banks Bouton. Despite the final result, he rushed for 107 yards and three scores on only ten carries, and also threw for 89 yards and one TD. Bouton's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Northwestern's record is now 11-1. As for Gaffney, they moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Northwestern will face off against Indian Land at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense has only allowed 14.4 points per game this season, so the Trojans' offense will have their work cut out for them. Gaffney does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
