Basketball Game Preview: Stanton Mustangs vs. Elkhorn Valley Falcons

Stanton is 0-3 against Elkhorn Valley since January of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Stanton Mustangs will challenge the Elkhorn Valley Falcons at 8:00 p.m.

Stanton is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, falling 71-50.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn Valley waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 56-46. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Falcons' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Huskies are ranked 16th).

Stanton better focus on containing Kellyn Ollendick and Korbin Werner as the pair were huge in Elkhorn Valley's win. Ollendick almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards, while Werner dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Ollendick has scored at least a third of Elkhorn Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Logan Black, who posted nine points.

Elkhorn Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Stanton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Stanton took a serious blow against Elkhorn Valley in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 70-39. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Stanton was down 40-16.
