Basketball Recap: Laporsha Allen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northfield over Denver East

It was a good run, but Northfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took an 80-63 bruising from the Denver East Angels. The Nighthawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Angels from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Northfield lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being LaPorsha Allen, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Madison Bethel, who posted 20 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Northfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Denver East got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Hall out in front who went 6 of 10 en route to 21 points and five steals. Hall's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Evelina Otto was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Northfield's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-7. As for Denver East, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Northfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-44 victory against Rangeview on the 31st. As for Denver East, they will take on Vista PEAK Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Denver East's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
