Softball Recap: Watervliet Comes Up Short

Watervliet fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Saugatuck on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trailblazers by a score of 7-6. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trailblazers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2017.

Kenzy Robards was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaylee Bartee stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Liberto-Taylor, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Watervliet's loss dropped their record down to 15-12-1. As for Saugatuck, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

While Watervliet had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
