Basketball Recap: Cairo Comes Up Short

Cairo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 25th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Westover Patriots, falling 48-28. While losing is never fun, the Syrupmakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 459th, while the Patriots are ranked 146th).

Westover's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wykieria Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Holmes also racked up eight steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Savannah Donaldson was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 11 points and six steals.

Cairo's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Westover, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Cairo has already played their next match, a 47-40 loss against Miller County on the 18th. As for Westover, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 39-28 victory against Terrell County on the 18th.
