Sodus is 9-1 against Lyons since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 4:45 p.m. Sodus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Lyons will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Sodus extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand Finney a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Laird was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025. Brody Crandell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Sodus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Lyons beat Dundee/Bradford Central 8-4 on Tuesday.
Cole Burnett was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Burnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Rice, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lyons: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brady Bastian, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Sodus' victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Lyons, their win bumped their record up to 4-13.
Lyons' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sodus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. It's a different story for Lyons, though, as they've only averaged .202. Will they be able to contain Sodus' hitters?
Everything went Sodus' way against Lyons when the teams last played back in April, as Sodus made off with a 12-1 victory. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
