Basketball Recap: Cherokee Takes a Loss

If Cherokee was feeling good fresh off their 42-22 takedown of Vina last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cherokee Indians came up short against the Shoals Christian Flame on Tuesday, falling 51-25. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-37 two weeks ago.

Leading Shoals Christian to victory were Sarah Davis (2025) and Mamie Bachofer. Davis (2025) went 8 for 14 en route to 26 points in addition to eight boards and five assists, while Bachofer dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which Davis (2025) has scored at least a third of Shoals Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Owen, who posted three points and five assists.

Cherokee has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Shoals Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cherokee will host Waterloo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Shoals Christian, they will welcome Athens Bible at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Athens Bible will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Shoals Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
