Baseball Recap: Mary Star of the Sea Has No Trouble Against St. Genevieve

Mary Star of the Sea won the last time they faced St. Genevieve and things went their way on Friday too. Mary Star of the Sea blew past St. Genevieve 15-2. With that win, the Stars brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

William Rojas was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing six bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other pitching news, Ruben Espinoza looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Mary Star of the Sea's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-5-1 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, Ricardo Carreon was a standout: he scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Daniel Avila also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Mary Star of the Sea has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. St. Genevieve's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mary Star of the Sea will face off against South El Monte at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Genevieve, they will square off against Bosco Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bosco Tech will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something St. Genevieve surely won't give up without a fight.
