Basketball Recap: Zoey Shannon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mary Persons over Troup County

Mary Persons was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the Troup County Tigers on the road by a 51-37 margin. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Tigers are ranked 110th).

Mary Persons lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Zoey Shannon, who posted seven points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anaja Lucear, who had nine points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Sheniyah Philpot continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Troup County, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Philpot is now averaging an impressive 2.8 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ta'Nasha Daniel, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Mary Persons' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Troup County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Mary Persons wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 45-42 victory against Houston County on the 7th. As for Troup County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-32 win against Whitewater on the 10th.
