Softball Recap: Cullman Bearcats vs. Madison County Tigers
Cullman extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-15 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Madison County Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-4 last Saturday.
As for Madison County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 27-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.
For Madison County's part, Savannah McGilton looked comfortable as she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. McGilton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Livy Huter, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. Allison Yeary was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Looking ahead, Cullman will challenge West Point at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Madison County, they will take on Springville at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. Madison County will need to watch out since Springville has now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.
