Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Comes Up Short

Purnell Swett lost against Seventy-First last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Purnell Swett Rams came up short against the Seventy-First Falcons, falling 60-40. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Falcons are ranked 97th).

Seventy-First's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jewel Gully led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Gully a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alani-Skye Wilkerson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Purnell Swett has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Seventy-First, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Purnell Swett has already played their next game, a 46-33 win against Lumberton on the 14th. As for Seventy-First, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 62-37 victory against Douglas Byrd on the 14th.
