Softball Recap: Auburn Comes Up Short

Auburn fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Jefferson Forest on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since April 17, 2024.

McKenzie Booth spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Hope Wilson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ariel Mullins, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Auburn's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Jefferson Forest, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Auburn wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 7-5 victory against Amherst County on the 22nd. As for Jefferson Forest, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-0 win against Halifax County on the 22nd.
