Football Recap: Montbello Skates Past Denver North with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montbello). They blew past the Denver North Vikings 61-21 on Saturday. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 21-9 loss the last time these two teams met.

Montbello got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Angel Chavez out in front who threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Chavez a new career-high in passer rating (161.5). 130 of Chavez's passing yards were hauled in by Zyaire Custis, who also brought in three receiving touchdowns.

Montbello didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Denver North to a completion percentage of just 37.5%. The Warriors are 2-1 when they limit the passing game like that.

Montbello didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Marcus Johnson and Tru Neal. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last three games he's played.
