Baseball Game Preview: Loretto Mustangs vs. Hardin County Tigers

Loretto and Hardin County are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Loretto is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

On Thursday, Loretto needed a bit of extra time to put away Richland. They skirted past the Raiders 3-2.

The team relied heavily on Casen Springer, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has become a key player for Loretto: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 8-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayden Aaron, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hardin County challenged Scotts Hill on Thursday. The Tigers fell 7-4 to the Lions. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Loretto's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-14. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hardin County, their loss dropped their record down to 20-6.

Loretto couldn't quite get it done against Hardin County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
