Baseball Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

Mitchell extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 8-7. They came up short against the Bedford North Lawrence Stars, falling 11-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bluejackets have suffered since April 3rd.

Mitchell saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Zeeks, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Bedford North Lawrence, the victory got them back to even at 8-8. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Bedford North Lawrence's side, Cam Gates made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Gates also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bedford North Lawrence is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Gates was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Bedford North Lawrence got a massive performance out of Cutler Chastain, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Chastain a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reece Goodgame, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Mitchell is taking a road trip to square off against Perry Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bedford North Lawrence, they will take on New Albany at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
