Flag Football Recap: Lilah Black Leads Steele Canyon's Defense on Tuesday

Steele Canyon won the last time they faced Grossmont and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cougars strolled past the Foothillers with points to spare, taking the game 26-7. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Cougars were the (much) better team in the second half.

It was another big night for Kaliani Ewing, who rushed for 63 yards and one TD, and also caught one score. Ily (I-Lee) Barclay also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Steele Canyon didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Grossmont to a completion percentage of just 37.9%. The team can thank Elisha Lewis for the heroic effort on defense: she. Steele Canyon wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 55.6%.

Steele Canyon's defense didn't let Marissa Farace, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Lilah Black was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three herself.

Steele Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Grossmont, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-4 record.

Steele Canyon and Grossmont should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Cougars will challenge Santana at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (64 vs. 314). Meanwhile, Grossmont (ranked 36th) will meet Helix (ranked 181st) at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
