Volleyball Recap: Bluffton Pirates vs. Kalida Wildcats
Bluffton had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 3-1 to the Kalida Wildcats. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Bluffton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23.
Despite the defeat, Bluffton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adelyn Althaus had 15 assists and four aces.
Kalida was led to victory by Sophie Vorst and Carlie Siefker. Vorst had 14 digs and six aces, while Siefker had 17 digs and four aces. The dominant performance also gave Vorst a new career-high in assists (three).
Coming up, Bluffton will venture away from home to face off against Shawnee at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Kalida, they will welcome Antwerp at 5:30 a.m. on Monday.
