Softball Recap: Alcorn Central Beats Walnut for Their Fifth Straight Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Alcorn Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Walnut Wildcats. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Sydnee Norman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Journey Phillips was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Brittney Willingham was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

Alcorn Central's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Walnut, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Alcorn Central beat Walnut by a score of 8-2 on Thursday.
