Softball Recap: Chicago Academy Starts Season with Win at Home

Chicago Academy took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 26-4 margin over the Steinmetz College Prep Silver Streaks. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Silver Streaks, too.

Bella Trejo made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Trejo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Destiny Rodriguez was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kennya Aucapina was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Chicago Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .848. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steinmetz College Prep only posted an OBP of .286.

Steinmetz College Prep dropped their record down to 1-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Chicago Academy will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Senn at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Steinmetz College Prep, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 18-16 defeat against Proviso East on the 29th.
