Softball Recap: Hartford Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Otter Valley

Hartford faced Otter Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Hurricanes fell just short of the Otters by a score of 7-6. The Hurricanes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Otters apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Serenitee Martel put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Faith Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Madelin Crowley was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Hartford's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3. As for Otter Valley, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3.

Coincidentally, Hartford and Otter Valley will both be playing Fair Haven the next time they take the field. The Otters will head out to face the Slaters at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Hurricanes will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
