Basketball Recap: Crown Point Comes Up Short

Crown Point saw some tournament action on Friday. They fell 63-52 to the Columbia City Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Eagles are ranked 13th).

Despite the defeat, Crown Point saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ava Richie went 9 for 20 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Richie has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Ava Punak was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and seven steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Crown Point and nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for Columbia City, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Crown Point won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Faith Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Crown Point is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Columbia City, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Carroll at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
