Recap: Niwot Cougars vs. Mountain View Mountain Lions

The Niwot Cougars suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Monday. They were dealt a 67-30 defeat at the hands of Mountain View. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Niwot in their matchups with Mountain View: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the defeat, Niwot saw an underclassman step up: Ella Zechman scored six points along with two steals. Zechman continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Niwot struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mountain View pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.

Addison Branscum continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain View, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Branscum has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alex Ellis, who scored 11 points along with four steals.

Niwot dropped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.5 points per game. As for Mountain View, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Niwot will be playing in front of their home fans against Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roosevelt has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 908 points over their last 12 matchups. Mountain View won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Frederick at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Frederick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Saturday.
