Basketball Recap: Jameir Legette's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marion over Burke

Marion and Burke squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Marion had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Burke Bulldogs by a score of 69-67. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Swamp Foxes have suffered since December 7, 2024.

Several Swamp Foxes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jameir Legette, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Legette has become a key player for Marion: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least 15 points, but 8-13 otherwise. Jaden Gerald was another key player, en route to 20 points.

Burke's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juel Mack, who to rack up 26 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Melachi Singleton, who on his way to 14 points and eight assists.

Marion's loss dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Burke, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Marion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Burke, they have already played their next game, an 83-40 defeat against Hampton County on the 21st.
