Basketball Game Preview: Lee Generals vs. Eastside Spartans

The Lee Generals and the Eastside Spartans will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lee has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Lee is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They lost 86-64 to Abingdon on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (59), the Generals still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Lee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kinley Huff went 13 of 31 on her way to 44 points along with five boards and three steals. The game was Huff's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Phalicity Pennington, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Eastside unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak dating back to last season on Tuesday. The contest between them and Gate City didn't end well, with Eastside falling 56-40.

Lee's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Eastside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Lee took a serious blow against Eastside in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, falling 68-41. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Lee was down 44-14.
