Baseball Game Preview: Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles vs. Covenant Christian Warriors

The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Covenant Christian Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Guerin Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Guerin Catholic made easy work of Greenfield-Central and carried off a 9-2 victory. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Tate Troxell was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Nolan Ratcliff also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Guerin Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenfield-Central only posted an OBP of .375.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Covenant Christian was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell just short of Indianapolis Bishop Chatard by a score of 4-2. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Blake Cope made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Covenant Christian is 8-1 when Cope posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise.

Covenant Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Guerin Catholic, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-12.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Guerin Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Covenant Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts.
