Basketball Recap: Winfield Vikings vs. Clearwater Indians
The Winfield Vikings came into Friday's matchup having lost 17 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Clearwater on Friday as Winfield made off with a 72-47 victory. Winfield's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Christian Moree, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Winfield's points. Another player making a difference was Kellen Gibson, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and three steals.
Winfield's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-11. As for Clearwater, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winfield will take on the Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Clearwater, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Trinity Academy is ranked 216th, while the Indians are ranked 239th).
