After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Coalinga, Avenal was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Firebaugh Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won 13 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Khloe Nieto and Emma Morales were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Nieto struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Morales tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Nieto has posted since back in April of 2024. At bat, Nieto got on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Morales went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Natalia Ruiz was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Layla Lopez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Avenal's victory bumped their record up to 16-6-1. As for Firebaugh, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20.
