Volleyball Recap: Coastal Christian Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Coastal Christian waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes. The Centurions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hurricanes, too.

Coastal Christian got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 29-31, 16-14.

Pasey Hodges was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had 17 digs and three aces. That's the most aces she has posted over her last six contests.

They weren't the only good servers: Coastal Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Cape Fear Academy still got an impressive performance from Lila Hammer, who had 23 assists and 15 digs. Hammer is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 23 games she's played dating back to last season. Edie Brooke Bartlett also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Coastal Christian's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Cape Fear Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-3.

Coastal Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against Hoggard on the 26th. As for Cape Fear Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Wayne Christian at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th.
