Softball Recap: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Franklin County Eagles

Patrick Henry had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-15 to make it 16. They lost 17-1 to the Franklin County Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent defeat being a 18-3 loss on April 3rd.

Patrick Henry saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Hobson, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Franklin County, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by nine runs or more this season.

On Franklin County's side, Aleah Davis was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Becca Merrick was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Custer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Patrick Henry will host Blacksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are facing the Bruins at the right time seeing as the Bruins are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Franklin County, they are taking a road trip to square off against Northside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.92 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
