Basketball Recap: Noah Eckels' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Discovery Canyon over Cheyenne Mountain

Discovery Canyon lost against Cheyenne Mountain back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Discovery Canyon Thunder took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks. The Thunder just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Several Thunder players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Eckels, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Eckels has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mitchell Vorwaller, who earned ten points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Discovery Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Discovery Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Cheyenne Mountain, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Discovery Canyon will venture away from home to take on Lewis-Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Discovery Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they will head out on the road to challenge Widefield at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
