Softball Recap: Sumter Snags Seventh Win in Last Nine Games

Sumter put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let the Blythewood Bengals get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Gamecocks, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Lillie Ivey, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Blythewood off the board. Ivey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKayla Mouradjian, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Bailey Ardis was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Sumter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive games.

Sumter has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Blythewood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-5.

Sumter will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bengals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
