Recap: Gateway Regional Gators vs. Lower Cape May Tigers
The Gateway Regional Gators''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 48-2 loss at the hands of Lower Cape May. Gateway Regional lost against Lower Cape May in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 41-0 score last time.
Jack O'Connell threw for 38 yards on five of 11 attempts. Aidan Bender was his top target, picking up 27 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Tyler Mills rushed for 55 yards.
Gateway Regional's loss was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-2 Woodbury and 7-2 Middle Township (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.2% over those games). As for Lower Cape May, the win was the sixth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Gateway Regional will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakewood at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Jersey (Lakewood is ranked 304th, while Gateway Regional is ranked 295th). As for Lower Cape May, they will take on Abraham Clark at 0:00 a.m. on Thursday. Abraham Clark is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
