Baseball Recap: Herriman Has No Trouble Against Corner Canyon

Herriman made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Corner Canyon, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Chargers on Tuesday. With that victory, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Herriman got a great performance from Bryce Wells as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The Mustangs are 4-1 when Wells allows three or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Kayson Thomas and Carson Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Jones went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Jones has become a key player for Herriman: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Brigham Whitaker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Herriman moved to 8-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Corner Canyon, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-5.

Herriman will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chargers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
