Basketball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Springstead

Springstead had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 53-42 win over the Vanguard Knights on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Springstead got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Addisson Osborne out in front who went 7 of 11 on her way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Willoughby, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Springstead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Vanguard still got an impressive performance from Sanaria Gunsby, who went 10 for 18 en route to 25 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Gunsby a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Sylnya Roberson, who earned four points in addition to 11 boards and eight blocks.

Springstead's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points over those games. As for Vanguard, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Looking ahead, Springstead will take on Leesburg at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Leesburg will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Springstead surely won't give up without a fight. Vanguard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
