Softball Game Preview: Groveton Indians vs. West Sabine Tigers

Groveton has won four straight games at home, while West Sabine has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. Groveton will welcome West Sabine at 6:00 p.m. Groveton will be strutting in after a win while West Sabine will be coming in after a loss.

Groveton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Colmesneil on Tuesday as Groveton made off with a 24-7 victory. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, West Sabine unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Corrigan-Camden by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since June 25, 2024.

London Weatherspoon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, West Sabine saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenzy Bragg, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

West Sabine's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 13-6. As for Groveton, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4-1 record this season.

Groveton beat West Sabine 4-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Will Groveton repeat their success, or does West Sabine has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
