League recap: Hall breaks off league-leading run for Westover

Westover's Marquis Hall rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A Cape Fear Valley this season in his game against Grays Creek last week. Hall ran for 80 yards on the play and finished with 134 on the day as his team fell to the Bears.

Grays Creek made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,619 from 3,023. The advance stemmed from a 63-40 victory over Westover last week.

Greg Bryant's team's dynamic duo of Henry Howard III and Kendall Lindsey proved tough for David Lovette's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Howard III threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns and Lindsey had 101 yards receiving. Hall helped Westover's passing attack out by catching two balls for 55 yards.

Ken McDowell was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 293 yards on 26 carries as the Bears fell to the Bears. Dion Rackley also contributed to the rushing game with 216 yards on the ground.

Westover's Howard III and Lindsey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Howard III has thrown for 1278 yards this season, while Lindsey, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 26 catches for 435 yards. Grays Creek's McDowell leads the league in rushing yards with 2203.

Douglas Byrd's Garry Lewis needs only eight yards against Union Pines next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 168 carries Lewis has accumulated 992 yard this year.

Two of the top units in 3A Cape Fear Valley will face off this week when the Bears take on Overhills. Grays Creek's offense has racked up 435 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Jaguars have allowed only 134 on the year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Overhills takes on the Bears. Tim Karrs' team is currently in third, while Grays Creek is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when the Jaguars and the Bears face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Overhills comes in having scored 226 this season, while Grays Creek has scored 435. The Jaguars scored 38 points last week as they defeated Western Harnett.

The Bears led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on the Wolverines. McDowell in the win.
