The Pine Grove Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Pottsville Crimson Tide at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pine Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Pine Grove managed to slip by Tulpehocken the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Pine Grove came up short against Tulpehocken on Saturday, falling 9-2. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Pine Grove saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinn Brommer, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Brommer has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Pottsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of West Scranton. That's two games in a row now that the Crimson Tide have lost by just one run.
Dominic Rynard put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Luke Schane made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brody Eroh, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Pine Grove's record now sits at 3-3. As for Pottsville, their record now sits at 1-4.
Pottsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pine Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. It's a different story for Pottsville, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Pine Grove's hitters?
Pine Grove came out on top in a nail-biter against Pottsville when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Does Pine Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pottsville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
