Football Game Preview: New Paltz Huguenots vs. Saugerties Sawyers

The New Paltz Huguenots will head out to take on the Saugerties Sawyers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. New Paltz will be strutting in after a win while Saugerties will be coming in after a defeat.

New Paltz proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 30) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Highland.

Meanwhile, Saugerties suffered their biggest loss since October 25, 2024 on Friday. They had to suffer through a 48-14 loss at the hands of Port Jervis. While losing is never fun, the Sawyers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Raiders are ranked 33rd).

New Paltz has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. Having lost for the first time this season, Saugerties fell to 6-1.

Everything came up roses for New Paltz against Saugerties when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 27-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huguenots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
