Baseball Game Preview: Apple Valley Eagles vs. Eagan Wildcats

Apple Valley and Eagan are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Apple Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Apple Valley barely beat Eastview the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Lightning 12-1 on Monday. The contest marked the Eagles' most dominant victory of the season.

Paxton Ames spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cam Noland was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Mick, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Apple Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Eagan and Prior Lake, and Prior Lake kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats fell 12-7 to the Lakers on Monday.

Eagan has also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Apple Valley, their record now sits at 8-10.

Apple Valley came up short against Eagan in their previous meeting back in April, falling 3-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
