Football Recap: Mitchell Mountaineers vs. McDowell Titans
Mitchell won the last time they faced McDowell, and things went their way on Friday too. The Mitchell Mountaineers came out on top against the McDowell Titans by a score of 34-24.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mitchell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Owen Riddle, who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Riddle got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible76 yards. Mitchell also got a significant boost from Kaj Pittman, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
Another reason for the win was Mitchell's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Colton Burleson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up twohimself. His also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks and making four total tackles.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mitchell was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 406 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McDowell only gained 211.
Danny Brown and Jordan Barnett certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Brown rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown, while Barnett rushed for 32 yards.
The victory got Mitchell back to even at 1-1. As for McDowell, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mitchell will venture away from home to square off against Alleghany at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McDowell, they will head out to take on Tuscola at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
