Preview: Citrus Hurricanes vs. Fivay Falcons
Citrus has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Fivay Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Citrus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 85-42, which was the final score in Citrus' tilt against Central. While losing is never fun, Citrus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 677th, while Central is ranked 64th).
Citrus' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ashton Jenkins, who scored nine points along with five rebounds, and Mason Bryant who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jenkins has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Fivay didn't have too much trouble with Patel on the road on Tuesday as they won 70-51.
Fivay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Orvill Ortiz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Dominick Walsh was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six assists and four steals.
Citrus' defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-8. As for Fivay, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Citrus have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.6 threes per game. It's a different story for Fivay, though, as they've been averaging only 8.1 threes per game. Given Citrus' sizeable advantage in that area, Fivay will need to find a way to close that gap.
Citrus came up short against Fivay in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, falling 70-57. Can Citrus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
