Recap: Godby Cougars vs. St. John Paul II Panthers
The Godby Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season. They really took it to St. John Paul II for the full four quarters, racking up a 53-12 victory on the road. That looming 53-12 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Godby yet this season.
Godby's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mar?nazha Houston, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Houston hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Aniyah Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six steals.
St. John Paul II's loss came despite strong showings from Logan Martin and Blakely Naumann. Martin scored six points along with six rebounds and three blocks, while Naumann scored five points. Martin has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. John Paul II struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Godby posted 11 assists.
The win (which was Godby's fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for St. John Paul II, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Godby will take on Wakulla at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wakulla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday. As for St. John Paul II, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Liberty County at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Liberty County's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so St. John Paul II's offense will have their work cut out for St. John Paul II.
