Softball Recap: Russell County Has No Trouble Against Abbeville

Russell County not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 18th. They put the hurt on the Abbeville Yellowjackets with a sharp 16-6 win. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.

Mikayla Heimbach looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Arveonna Randolph and Tenley Cotarelo did most of the damage at the plate: Randolph got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Cotarelo scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Those three RBI gave Randolph a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh Howard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Russell County's win bumped their record up to 3-17. As for Abbeville, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, Russell County will be playing at home against Rehobeth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rebels' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Abbeville will be paying especially close attention to Russell County's contest: after Russell County faces off against Park Crossing, they'll take on Abbeville again at 5:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
